Actualacid’s ear for psychedelia and massive warped drum breaks blends with Marcus Woods’s careful sound design on Smith, a harsh, dancefloor-ready hyper-kinetic banger.

Enormous percussion and chopped speech samples from none other than The Fall’s Mark E Smith power the track – but in every breather it gives, it exposes the detailed textures underneath.

The track has already drawn comparisons to artists like Skee Mask or Blawan’s heavier, percussive techno, or the dense arrangements of producers like Aphex Twin or Autechre.

In the past both artists have defied genre. Marcus Woods pivoted from lo-fi hip-hop beats to careful ambient sound design, but not without collaborating with enormous rap names like Rebel Phoenix, Mango and FYNCH. Actualacid first appeared with a psychedelic project Boredoms 500, but launched skyward with singles that have drawn from nearly everything between Memphis rap, warped boyband pop and vaporwave.

Smith marks the first crossing point between Cork’s DIY music collective Hausu and Dublin’s Burner Records. Aired for months at gigs on all sides of the country, this previously well-kept secret is released among a stacked calendar of other releases from the involved artists.

Marcus Woods aims to release his debut album self-portrait in August (featuring another collaboration with Actualacid) as well as exploring new territory as part of m_ovements with Silent Ghost. Actualacid is readying his mixtape Boredoms 400, reissuing his (previously Bandcamp-exclusive) single Heavens Gate Nikes on digital streaming platforms and contributing production to Hausu pop project Arthur Valentine.
