Idircheol is guitarist and composer Shane Hennessy’s fourth solo release. Featuring compositions and arrangements inspired by his upbringing in Irish traditional music, ‘Idircheol’ is a musical interlude which reflects on the changing pace and shape of our daily lives in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Drawing on his expertise in a vast range of fingerpicking and flatpicking guitar styles and his background as a concertina player, Hennessy revisited some of his early musical influences searching for inspiration to create new works. The period of lockdown allowed him the time to both revisit and explore composition and arrangement of Irish Traditional-inspired music for solo guitar, approaching the genre in a new way. He also drew on his more recent musical experiences and journeys, travelling, performing, collaborating and listening, and the sense of pause that came about when all of this work necessarily came to a halt or moved online with the onset of COVID-19.

The creation of Idircheol was supported by the Arts Council of Ireland via the 2020 COVID-19 Crisis Response Award.
The album was débuted via a livestream concert from Shane's home on Thursday December 17th 2020 at 7pm Irish time. It was shown simultaneously on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and VK.com, hosted by Irish Music Magazine.
