Island of Flowers is the 9th studio album from Bangkok-based, Irish multinstrumentalist Seamus O’Muineachain. The album began after O’Muineachain saw his first child on an ultrasound scanner for the first time.

“Seeing the baby and hearing the heartbeat for the first time was more inspiring to me as an artist than I had anticipated,” O’Muineachain says. “I started to have vivid visions of land brimming with flowers and life in my dreams.”

Centred on themes of flourishing and abundance, Island of Flowers is O’Muineachain’s most optimistic and decadent release to date. While retaining the simple piano lines found in his earlier work, the album also merges synths and field recordings with treated strings and minimal percussion.

Tracks such as “You” and “Farewell Formosa” favour accessible melodies and uplifting tones, while “Shallows” and “Lost, Roaming” incorporate elements of ambient IDM. Elsewhere, “We Swim” revisits O’Muineachain’s work in solo piano miniatures. Taken together, Island of Flowers unfolds as an exercise in world-building, one where melody and mood are paramount, and where a sense of life quietly insists on emerging.
