Headache

After some time writing in Los Angeles, Drew Hall returned to Cork with a series of new musical ideas and reuniting with friends. Playing in Automatic Blue's live band alongside Actualacid, Ghostking is Dead and Alex Gough, Hall found himself in the orbit of Hausu, who were so impressed with his material that home studio sessions followed that summer.

Headache, Drew Hall's debut single and first work with Hausu, shows the results of this partnership; Drew Hall's loose, DIY, lo-fi R&B sound captured and mixed by Ghostking is Dead (who also worked on its artwork), mastered by Actualacid and prepared for release in our small little collective.

It's a quiet introduction to Hall's sound, written during his LA stay, viewing a young relationship's ending. Lean and carefully arranged, his vocal sits in the centre ushered by understated drums and little guitar licks, channelling a youthful nostalgia and hopelessness, trying to balance what's real and what's just in his head, brought together in the hook "This feels like a dream state / can't tell the difference between love and a headache..."
